Known by many names this is one of the more demanding of damselfishes. It will not settle well if the water conditions are anything less that perfect. An aggressive fish, it also requires space to stake its territory. The juvenile coloration is a deep bluish black with a paler throat area. A single vertical white and yellow band divides the body just in front of the dorsal fin, and vibrant electric-blue lines can be seen, notably on the head. As the fish matures, these bold markings fade, and adults have a less striking, dull grey appearance. Black Neon Damselfishes are relatively easy to feed in home aquaria, accepting most small foods readily

The Black Neon Damselfish is suitable for keeping with invertebrates in a mixed reef tank
